Readings Ch 5 & 7

This section on post-colonial journalists is an interesting cultural reading for myself having an avid interest in culture.  To say that the tabloid is a compact version of the broadsheet is funny though, ITS A3 SIZE!!!  That’s huge anyway!  Using different font styles to conform to a different democratical meaning is pretty cool, i just thought they were for artistic purposes only.  Now the computer is more dominent than the print media… where does that leave the role as a journalist?

I remember when living in England years ago when I was a young lad, watching the public service broadcasting (BBC 1 & 2) and wondering why they didn’t have commercials like Ch3 &Ch4 (we only had 4 channels in those days).  It’s because the ‘Jo-public’ has to pay for this service via taxes or other subscriptions.  I prefered these channels as advertisment drove me crazy.  The last statement comes as a paradox to my current studies in marketing, as thats all about advertising!

Podcasting is a fantastic facility that can be widely used around Griffith University, if like myself you have to work long hours and sometimes can’t attend lectures, you simply download the file and can catch up on those juicy bits of info.

The section on television as a cultural form is so true in the way that it almost dominates peoples lifes.  Not in just a pro-marketing way but, also social form, as for my Grandad, he was obsesed and never let anyone talk whilst it was on.
