Week 12 – Free Software – Final Thought – Exam Revision
Lecture
In the interest of using open software, I have been learning HTML in another course and since I’ve begun to excel in this, I have considered creating my own web-site and this knowledge has intrigued me even more. You don’t need to mess around with all that copyright jazz! You can just use a Creative Commons licence on your artwork.
I once used the Mozilla’s Firefox web browser here at Griffith; this was quicker than the Microsoft one as an anchor. Because I already own a Microsoft software package on my Acer Aspire 5100 (purchased at the Campus Computers) I don’t see the need to download GNU/Linux Operating System. GIMP is a great alternative if you choose to edit pictures and don’t have access to the professional computer labs. God bless EFF! If it wasn’t for these guys (EFF), then we would have pay per view on anything of public interest, we’d be subscribing to obtain Platinum and Gold packages. Who knows where it would all end.
Tutorial –
Today is the last tutorial of the New Communication Technology course and we have our exams on Friday morning. Our tutorial task today is to look at the key points that we covered in the lectures, tutorials and screenings, so we can focus on our revision. My next four days are going to consist of watching the screenings and lecture recordings, reading the text book and lecture notes.
Final Thought
This course has given me a fantastic insight to the converging world of communication and technology. In February I had a very limited knowledge to this as I’ve been out of academic action for over ten years and never really used these technological devices. Now I’ve seen the labour saving and communicative benefits from these technologies, I can utilise them within the next two and a half years remaining here at Griffith.
Everytime I watch a movie I find myself deconstructing its meaning in relation to the course I am studying. This means a lot to me as i’ve always enjoyed a good movie session and now can truely understand it concept.
Writing this blog has been a progressive experience for me too, I mean that at the beginning I didn’t have a clear goal on the purpose of this exercise and as you can see in the first couple of weeks, the content isn’t as enjoyable as the recent entries. As for continuing this blog, I think that it will end here, as I have a better understanding and would prefer to start a fresh one. I really enjoyed incorporating JPEG pictures to each topic as visual communication is generally more important that textual and is more entertaining.
I thought the tutorial tasks were a good idea as you have to do the task and enter your findings to the blog, this way you gain extra marks and actually learn the task in the process! Some tutes in other cources aren’t so constructive but, I wont go mentioning these as we must show ettiquite
Even having to download Quick Time Player to watch the lecture screenings gave me an opportunity to learn how to use Pod Casting.
As for the essay, it was an absolute pleasure to write because I had very limited experience on the world of virtual reality and it gave me a great insight. I also didn’t realise that these guys were so sexually frustrated!!! The use of an avatar to walk around a second life is quite bazaar in my eyes, but I can see the sense in this the people that don’t have much enjoyment in their own real life.
The lectures have been very informative and entertaining at the same time, only I’m feeling a little nervous about having to retain all that info. Focus, focus, focus!!!!I guess this is it for me now, maybe I might be adding assignments to this blog so I store them forever and refere to them anytime, anywhere. Thank you for this experience… from being in a possition where I have limited knowledge on technology to becoming a complete New Tech Comm expert!!!!!!
BLOGAWAY!!!!
Goodbye!
