Week 10 – Using Microsoft Word

Today’s tutorial task was to learn some basic steps with the Microsoft Word mail merge function.   Here is a list of problems and solutions during this exercise;

  • Exercise 3; adding a page number at the foot of the page was a simple task, only that its normal format is 12 font sizes.  The task specifically states to place this in 10 font size.  I solved this by typing ‘page number font’ in the help tool bar in the top left corner and receive simple instructions via the View toolbar Headers and Footers section.

  • Advanced Exercise 1; this was another problem ‘Right-click the mouse over the words ‘believe’ and select ‘Accept insertion’ (do the same over the word ‘feel’)’.  When attempting this command I discovered that when right-clicking on ‘feel’, I did not receive the ‘Accept insertion’.  Unless this option appears on a Uni. Lab computer, as I undertook this assignment at home on my Acer notebook, Word 2003 run on
    Vista.  I just closed this function by right mouse-clicking and ‘Accept Deletion’.

  • Advanced Exercise 2; the only slight problem occurred during this task was the employers information needed spacing with a simple press of the spacebar.  The mail merge field setting does not automatically space each insertion, as stated in the exercise.

The mail merging function is relatively simple to use once the steps have been practiced and completed.  This function will definitely be used then I finish this degree, as I’ve only 3 months to find decent employment until my visa expires on March 2010 and with this time consuming method I can become more efficient.

 This weekend was fantastic fun.  It was my 31st birthday celbration and my girlfriend, Shelly treated me to front row tickets at a cage fight on Saturday!  It was electric with the adrenaline and atmosphere.  Then on Sunday we had a group session in the Pink Poodle Belgium bar drinking my favourite beer (Favourite Beer Page).
